What Do I Do If I’m a Victim of Unemployment Fraud?

Hundreds of thousands of Ohioans have had their identity stolen or attempted to be stolen as their names and Social Security numbers and other information were fraudulently used by scammers to claim Ohio unemployment benefits.

Many people are just finding out now that they may be identity theft victims as the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) has begun the process of mailing out the 1099 tax forms to presumed recipients of Ohio unemployment benefits in 2020.

About

The City of Fremont became a member of the Regional Income Tax Agency, known as “RITA” in 2005 to assist in the administration and enforcement of our local income tax ordinance. Fremont is one of approximately 300 Ohio taxing jurisdictions that has joined the Agency through the Regional Council of Governments (RCOG). Members receive significant cost savings by sharing technology, equipment, legal and auditing staff, bulk mailing and printing services, banking and credit card services, disaster recovery systems, and many other services necessary to efficiently and effectively collect the City’s income tax.
