Community Relations Commission

What is the Community Relations Commission?

The Community Relations Commission (CRC) was created and established through Chapter 146 of the City Code to promote equal protection for all citizens; to create an environment that ensures equality in all facets of life, i.e., economic, employment, education, political, societal, and cultural; to improve relationships with all racial, ethnic, and religious groups through communication, cooperation, and understanding; and to take a proactive approach in resolving inequalities, injustices, and civil rights violations.

The CRC consists of 13 members who are appointed by the Mayor. The members of the CRC have the responsibility of eliminating discrimination in all areas of community life.

The Commission invites and enlists the cooperation of racial, religious, ethnic groups, community organizations, labor and business organizations, fraternal and benevolent societies, veterans’ organizations, professional and technical organizations, and other groups in the City of Fremont in carrying out its duties, functions, and purposes.

Areas to Serve

The CRC is divided into three teams that are focused on three different topics that are important to the community.

  1. Cultural Programming: To create an environment to ensure equality of economic, educational, political, societal, and cultural development. (Here are a few examples of programming options:  Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Diversity & Inclusion Topics/Trainings, Minority Entrepreneurship Development, Gender Discrimination, Poverty, Parent Involvement, Understanding Government Process, etc.)
  2. Relationship Building: Improve relationships with all racial, ethnic, and religious groups.
  3. Civil Rights: Proactive approach in resolving inequalities, injustices, and civil rights concerns.
